Building and flight report of Horten Vc from Engel Modellbau & Technik

Start

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 Day 6 Day 7

Now to the building of the Engel Horten:

At first I detached the canopy along the split line. For this work I used a flexible steel ruler and a sharp knife. Be careful with the knife. Shit happens...

Before start of building I've gotten a practice report from Ralf Fuchs(in German). So the next step was to reinforce the landing skid. I cutted out the fiberglass cloth, which is in the front of the inner wing. A trimmed balsa part was glued with thickened epoxy resin into the opened skid. The front of the landing skid was also glued with strong thickened epoxy resin. Later a launching hook for the rubber band should be implemented. After drying you have a very stable landing skid, which should be strong enough for harder landings.

The next step in the building instruction describes the reinforcement of the blue styro foam in the middle of the wing. You should use 163 gramm fiberglass strips. I decided to use carbon fiber strips, which should overlap 100 mm in the middle section. The whole procedure can be viewed on the images.

Attached the planned technical completion:
